John Franklin Maness was born in De Soto on November 10, 1948 a son to Edwin W. and Fannie B. (nee Taylor) Maness. He died at his rural De Soto home on May 5, 2020 at the age of 71. He is survived by his companion of 38 years Sandra Paul; a stepdaughter Stephanie (John) Kitchell, De Soto; a stepson Larry Paul, Bonne Terre; one granddaughter Amber Harris and her mother Lorrie Payne; two grandsons: Matthew (Beth) Kitchell and Andrew Kitchell; two great-grandchildren: Haylie Harris and Hudson Kitchell; a sister Joyce Robertson, Greers Ferry, AR; and a brother Ron (Sue) Maness, De Soto. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Ronald Robertson. Often known by his C.B. Handle “Chicken Thief” John had retired after serving his country for 22 years in the United States Army. John had also retired as Street Department Supervisor for the City of De Soto. He was a Life Member of AmVets Post #48 and V.F.W. Post #1831. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting matches. |
