Sarah Catharine Crawford was born in Jerseyshore, PA on January 31, 1917 a daughter to Frank Halfpenny and Mary Fountaine (nee Sebring) Painter. She died in Tucson, AZ on April 20, 2016 at the age of 99. She is survived by her children: Robert Bruce (Debra) Crawford, Sr., De Soto, Margaret Elizabeth “Betsy” Crawford, Tucson, AZ, and Brian M. (Jane) Crawford, Australia; two grandchildren: Robert Bruce Crawford, Jr. and Pamela Marie Crawford; and three great-grandchildren: Lauren, Jaden, and Ally. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: The Rev. A. Chandler Crawford; two sisters: Maryanna Hill and Helen Painter; one brother: Robert Painter; a sister-in-law: Millie Painter; and a brother-in-law; Glen Hill. A 1938 graduate of Mt. Holyoke College with a degree in economics she was commissioned a Lieutenant serving in the United States Navy during World War II. She was a founding member and past President of the American Association of University Women in Xena, OH a member of the Anthes Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association. She worked as a librarian retiring from Jefferson College. The Rev. Dr. James Clark will officiate the memorial service with inurnment to follow at Christ Church Cathedral, St. Louis, MO |
