Velma M. Martin was born in Cherryville on November 26, 1940. She died at her De Soto home on April 8, 2022 at the age of 81. She is survived by her children: Debra Newkirk Clark, Orlando, FL, Marty (Faye) Newkirk, De Soto, Linda (Tom) Brasile, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Valerie Newkirk Roderman, Victoria, Laura (Greg Meredith) Newkirk, Morse Mill, Kelly Newkirk, Victoria, and Randy Newkirk, Victoria; 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; three sisters: Mona (the late Merle) Daugherty, High Ridge, Eunice Hatfield, Davisville and Barb Cook, Cherryville;  one brother Charles (the late Donna) Renshaw, Cedar Hill; and her step children Rick Martin, Cherryville, Vicky (Charles) Taff, Springfield, Phyllis (Rick) Conway, Steeleville, Carl (Debbie) Baker, St. James and Allen (Beth) Adams, Steelville. She is preceded in death by her father Harvey Hafley; her mother Verda (nee Lewis) Hafley-Renshaw; her husband Stanley Martin: two sons: Marvin Newkirk, Jr. and Dan Newkirk and two grandsons Nicholas Clark and Andrew Clark. Velma enjoyed being with her family and attending the First Free Will Baptist Church in De Soto. She was a talented musician who enjoyed performing music with her husband Stanley.
