Sherrill Robert Strayhorn of DeSoto, MO died January 16, 2022 at Barnes hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was a retired pattern maker and Owned Progressive Pattern Company in St. Louis, MO. He was an avid boy scout and continued his love for scouting by becoming a Scout Master. He served as a member of the Sunrise R-IX School Board for 17 years. He was a Charter member of the Arnold Elks, and a member of the Blackwell Masons. He had his aviator license and owned a Cessna 4-seater plane. He loved being outdoors on his ranch gardening, hunting, fishing, and flying his grandchildren around his property in his plane.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Kathryn Johanna (Green) Strayhorn. 4 daughters; Cynthia (Don) Heimos, Tracie (Brad) Long, Deborah Harness and Mary Beth Sapper (Rick Bowen). 13 grandchildren; Robert (Lori) Heimos, Kenneth Heimos, Kathryn (Tim) LaBruyere, Andrew Eichelberger, Julie (Adam) Brewington, Joseph Eichelberger, Shaun (Melissa) O’Rourke, Ryan Harness, Johanna Harness (Larry Smith), Tiffany Galster (Bryan Savage), Elisha (Kaleb) Jaragin, Jarred (Amanda) Sapper and Jacob (Abby) Sapper. 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, A brother Larry (Nancy) Strayhorn, sister-in-law Reba Strayhorn, brother-in-law Mike Bahr, many nieces and nephews and lots of friends.
He was born in BeeBee Arkansas on October 20, 1933. He was proceeded in death by his father Louie Strayhorn & stepmother Maxine Strayhorn, his mother Bethel (Edwards) Hettenhausen & stepfather Edward Hettenhausen, his brother Harrell Strayhorn, his sister Marilyn Bahr, brother-in-law, Joseph Green; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Green; grandson Chad Galster and his great-grandson James Arthur Sapper. As an expression of sympathy the family is requesting donations be made to the Sunrise R-IX School District’s outdoor classroom. Donations may be mailed to Sunrise School (Sherrill Strayhorn Memorial) 4485 Sunrise School Rd. DeSoto, MO 63020.
