Sammy Russell Oestereich was born in Cheyenne, WY on March 18, 1947 a son to Russell and Mary Helen (McKinney) Oestereich. He died at his De Soto home on June 6, 2020 at the age of 73. He is survived by his father who lives in Sun City, KS; his wife Berneice Hess, Titusville, FL; one daughter Edith Young, Orlando FL, one son Maj. Kirk R. Oestereich, Sr. USMC, Jacksonville, N.C.; a very dear friend Kathy Davis of De Soto and her family; two step-sons Ash Hess, Coco, FL and Sterling Hess, Raeford, NC; a sister Deborah Semonin, Naples, FL; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and his step-father Tom Potter. A Vietnam War Veteran Sammy retired after serving in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He had worked as a Greyhound Bus Driver, then drove for Silvey Trucking and was currently employed as a driver for Huskey Bus Service where he especially enjoyed driving for the Jefferson College Baseball team. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and target shooting. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
