Mrs. Schlanker was a true gift as a person and a teacher. Even as an awkward, clueless 7th grader, I felt the power of her belief is us and her love of literature that she gave to all her students. In fact, I can still recite poems she had us memorize. I actually followed in her impressive footsteps to become a middle school English teacher myself and hope I was half the teacher she was.
