Marjorie Ann “Margie” (Bernhardt) Phipps, 87, of De Soto died Nov. 1, 2020, at Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Festus. Mrs. Phipps was a homemaker, the widow of Dee Troy Phipps, who died in 2014.

Mrs. Phipps was born Jan. 9, 1933, the daughter of William C. and Celestine (Ross) Bernhardt. In 1952 she married Dee. T Phipps and lived in a number of locations around the United States and the world during her husband’s 20-year career in the Navy and subsequent career with McDonnell-Douglas. The couple later retired to a cattle farm south of De Soto, where she had been born in a log cabin built by her great-grandfather.

Mrs. Phipps was preceded in death by three siblings, David W. Bernhardt, William R. Bernhardt, and Louise Muzzey. She is survived by three sons, Steven, John and Mark, her daughter-in-law, Laura Phipps, three grandchildren, Andrew, Caroline, and Aaron Phipps, and one granddaughter, Zoei. Burial will be in Christian Cemetery in Fredericktown, with an outdoor graveside service. Memorials may be made to Hope United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 695, De Soto 63020.
