Gretchen Roop Ray was born in Crystal City on October 22, 1938 a daughter to Lewis Wade and Mildred Marie (nee Dickman) Roop. She died at Mercy Hospital-South on December 22, 2020 at the age of 82. Gretchen was a journalist having started her career with Roop Publications in De Soto and retiring from the Corpus Christi (TX) Caller-Times. She was a member of the D.A.R., P.E.O. Chapter FR, and Redeemer Lutheran Church-De Soto. She is survived by her brother L. Wade (Karen) Roop, II, De Soto; her step mother Cathy Camp Roop; and her niece Lori (Brian) McKee, Festus and three nephews: Lewis (Kelly) Roop, De Soto, Charles (Stephanie) Roop, De Soto, and Jonathan (Samantha) Roop, Hillsboro and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents. As an expression of sympathy memorials may be made to the De Soto Public Library or your local public library.
