Barry W. Ellis, loving husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at this home on January 22, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born June 17, 1943, a son to Virgil and Estelle (Jenkins) Ellis, in Sedalia, Missouri. Barry was a Professor of American History at Jefferson College for over 40 years.

In addition to his teaching, Barry was professionally active including serving as Department Chairperson, Academic Affairs Committee Chairperson, sponsor of Phi Theta Kappa, and President of the Missouri Community College Association. He wrote the grant that created the History Center and Jefferson Tours that he also escorted for many years. He was chosen Teacher of the Year by Phi Theta Kappa, and many former students praised his story-telling approach to history.

Barry graduated from Central Missouri University with Bachelor of Arts, Masters, and Specialist Degrees. He was an active member of De Soto Hope United Church of Christ, serving as President of the Consistory several times. In addition to spending time with family and friends, he took much pleasure in playing basketball, poker, bridge, and fantasy football. He was an avid reader, flower gardener and enjoyed traveling.

Barry is survived by his wife of 59 years: Marilyn (Smiley) Ellis and their two children, Christi Jung and John Ellis. In addition, he has two grandchildren: Alyssa (Rodney) Edmundson and David Jung.
